Skull Island Tiger Prawns

Located in Australia’s Northern Territory region, Skull Island is where the largest tiger prawns in Australia’s Northern Prawn Fishery are caught. These prawns are caught, packed, and snap frozen at sea in the pristine waters of Australia’s Gulf of Carpentaria, ensuring that their eating characteristics remain intact from ocean to plate.

Tiger Prawns

Hailing from Skull Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria, tiger prawns are the largest in Australia, measuring up to 26cm in length and 100g in weight. These juicy giants of the prawn world, with their characteristic tiger stripes, striking fluorescent purple tails, and impressive size, are a true delight on any plate.

Sustainability

Skull Island tiger prawns are certified as ‘sustainable’ by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), originating from the world’s first certified sustainable tropical prawn fishery. They are only caught during the months of August to November each year, and exclusively at night to minimize bycatch impact. The fishery remains closed for the rest of the year to allow juvenile tiger prawns to mature into adults and reproduce.

Furthermore, Skull Island Tiger Prawns are now completely carbon neutral, with Austral Fisheries certified under the Australian Government Carbon Neutral Program.
